The Sewickley Hunt hounds are primarily American Foxhounds. They are lighter built, deeper and bigger voiced, strong nosed, and a properly independent yet, biddable hound. We have been outcrossing to the PennMarydel hound recently. This is a strain of the American hound. This increases the voice and scenting ability of the pack tremendously, and can slow them down just a bit (that’s a good thing in our steep, rough terrain). We do have a few crossbred hounds, those are hounds that have some of BOTH, English and American foxhound in their pedigree.
